Spectacular Vernacular

Finn Nicols
Based between Limerick and Offaly, Finn Nichol is an artist and musician who defines his work as a multi-disciplinary enquiry into narrative.
His embrace of formal experimentation in the studio yields an aesthetic language rooted in collage, illustration and animation and is characterized by cross disciplinary pollination.

Place is important to Nichol- weaving playful narratives from legends and folklores of Ireland. The midlands becomes both a backdrop and a character in itself in Nichols work as he explores both the everyday experience of living there and the mythology surrounding the landscape- recontextualizing ancient motifs to speak to contemporary concerns. Offbeat characters emphasise the absurdism of irish life and occupy worlds of gothic psychadelia.

Nichol graduated Limerick School of Art and Design in 2021, where he was awarded student of the year. He has exhibited in multiple venues across Ireland including Birr Vintage Week, Damer House gallery, The RDS visual artist awards, Dublin, and the Source Arts Center Thurles, as well as in the Homeland Loop festival in Barcelona.
