Monica is an artist, arts educator and facilitator whose practice incorporates research, drawing, painting, seminars, publications and short films. Her work is shaped by two languages. She studied Painting at NCAD and received an MA in visual arts practices from IADT( 2010). She participated in Intercultural - Autumn School CREATE & Counterpoint Arts (2020) and Kildare Digital Skills (2020/21). An award-winning artist, she presents work through interdisciplinary exhibitions, workshops, publications and seminars inter/nationally.Her Temporary Studio within an industrial Bord na Móna peat excavation site, launched PLOT / CEAPACH. This ongoing project explores our relationships with land and the urgent need to make a living at critical and contested sites. Drawings and Paintings act as imaginary spaces from which to look at things differently. She plans and facilitates creative drawing / painting projects with communities of interest to investigate local places and habitats. She is currently working with: Arts Council/Dept of Education Creative Schools Initiative as a Creative Associate; Ealaín na Gaeltachta as arts evaluator for CUISLE; Creative Rathangan Meitheal on interdisciplinary walks, workshops and seminars. Recent awards include: Arts Council touring show INSITES / ÓN CHEAPACH (2018) Collaboration with Dunamaise Arts Centre, Independent Curator Denise Reddy, Artists, Lisa Fingleton, Gareth Kennedy. Exhibition toured to Siamsa Tíre, Courthouse Tinahely, Birr Theatre and Arts Centre, Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge. Programme also included Seminar, Talks, Workshops. Bealtaine Commission Award ‘Tar Isteach’ and IMMA RESIDENCY 2019/20 Collaboration with artists Maeve Collins and Julie Griffith from Ground Up Artists Collective and with residents living in two Direct Provision Centres and in one Refugee Centre.
Artist in the Community research award (2021), Kildare Co.Co Arts Act Award (2018/20) exploring aspects of Land, Language, Movements of people within the locale of Rathangan, Bog of Allen. In collaboration with Creative Rathangan Meitheal, Co. Kildare Leader Partnership.
